James D. Raddatz
Owner/Funeral Director
James D. Raddatz, better known as Jim, has been a licensed funeral director since graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. He holds a license in both Iowa and Minnesota, and belongs to state and national associations for funeral directors and cremation providers. He has years of experience working in funeral homes in Rochester, Minnesota; Breckenridge, Minnesota; and Des Moines. He is originally from southern Minnesota, moving to Des Moines in 1978 and buying his own business in 1987. Jim has a license to write preneed funeral insurance and also designs monuments and gravestones for the families he serves. He designed the current funeral home building in 1995 and had it built to best meet the needs of families. Jim enjoys a network with Central Iowa funeral directors and provides many services for them when needed. He is pleased that his daughter, Gretchen, has followed in his footsteps to be a funeral director in Minnesota, and daughter, Ingrid continues to help him here. As an owner and active director, he has limited spare time, but loves to watch his Minnesota teams on TV and also follows basketball and football for Drake, Iowa State and Iowa University. He is a member of the Masons and the Scottish and York Rites, Grace United Methodist Church and the Des Moines Civic Center. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve Program after college. He feels strongly that a life should be honored and remembered, and he is pleased to help people make a plan for memorializing in a way that is special, unique and comforting.
